Early Detection Saved Me!

Early Detection Saved Me!

Susan G. Komen Pink Walk 2025

I need to share this personal health journey I have been on since April 2025. I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer. This was not a genetic disease that was on my radar, and further genetic testing for me was negative. Regardless of genetics, breast cancer was a reality for me.

I had 3 surgeries, 1 in May and 2 in June, to remove the cancer cluster. Then in August I endured 4 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week. I rang the bell on Thursday, September 4th. I cannot proclaim to be “cancer free” but I can say I have NED: No Evidence of Disease.

Why am I sharing this health journey? AWARENESS!!! My cancer was found during a routine yearly exam, and I want to use any voice and platform I have to share my story and bring awareness to women and serve as a reminder that this disease is not exclusive to genetics.

What can we do collectively? During the month of October, ANY cause ribbon glitter tattoo (in any color) that is paid for, HALF of the proceeds will be given to both The American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation at the end of the month.

Moving forward there will be other campaigns and collective contributions benefiting research, awareness, donating to the cost of exams for those women that may not have adequate insurance to cover the expense of detection or treatment of breast cancer. I hope to work with many local agencies, or local affiliates of national wide agencies to unite to help other women keep fighting. Stay tuned for more!

I was lucky. I AM lucky! I am grateful and feel blessed during my cancer journey with enormous support by family, friends, doctors and nurses. Now I need to pay it forward and be a voice to this terrible disease.
